In Acts, the Holy Spirit came on the gathered believers in Jerusalem and empowered them to be witnesses – even to the ends of the earth. By the end of Acts, Paul reaches the edge of the known world, the island of Malta, where we are told the locals built a fire on the beach. A bonfire. The good news of Jesus spreads like fire, sending us as witnesses – empowered by the Spirit – to the ends of the earth, so that all would come home to God.
Bonfire began in early 2015 as a small living room Bible study to reach the neighborhood. But over the next few months it multiplied and grew, spawning several other communities reaching people across the island. Bonfire is both a gathering where anyone can encounter and respond to God, as well as a movement that equips and empowers people to start "kingdom fires" – unique ministries and gatherings – wherever God sends them.
